I had a head start in school since I was kid. I was always in the "gifted" program classes and I even made it into a very rigorous middle school program called R.E.A.C.H. at Fort Clarke Middle School in Gainesville, Florida. It stands for Research, Evaluate, Analyze, Communicate, and Historical perspective. This program prepared me well for high school and I am now advanced in reading and writing, but it was a huge workload for a 6th grader. After moving to Merritt Island, I was invited to the Galileo Program at Jefferson Middle School where I had the opportunity to start earning high school credits and take all honors classes. I continued to hold myself to high standards as I enrolled in all honors and AP classes throughout high school.
I have taken all the basic required classes I need to graduate, but I have also taken many fun and demanding classes throughout high school.
The AP classes that I took were AP Chemistry, AP Language, AP Pre-Calculus and AP Literacy. I actually really enjoyed these classes. These were the subjects that I was great at and liked the most. A few of my favorite teachers taught these classes.
I completed 3 years of Spanish fulfilling my foreign language requirement and going further.
I also took four semesters of Volleyball. Volleyball 1-3 and then Sports Officiating. I learned all the rules and skills in the class 1-3, and I was basically a teaching assistant to the coach in my last semester as an SO. Even though volleyball was a brand new sport to me, I played on the Junior Varsity Volleyball team my freshman year because of my enjoyment of this class. Coach Wells also taught me many life skills while in her class. I came to her with all of my struggles, and she gave the best advice.
I took my first Theatre class my junior year of high school and I fell in love with it! That's why I now audition for every show that our theatre puts on. I took Theatre 1 my junior year and Advanced Acting my senior year.
Finally, every year of high school, I have taken a Child Care class. As a freshman, I took Child Care 1. As a sophomore, I took Dual Enrollment Child Care through Eastern Florida State College and MIHS. In that class I earned my staff credentials for the Department of Children and Families and I was certified in CPR and Basic Life Support. As a junior, I took Child Care 4, in which I earned my Child Development Associates Degree (CDA).
Several of my teachers have been genrous enough to write letters of recommendation on my behalf that I am happy to share with anyone that may be interested.
Since the start of my sophomore year of high school, I have been enrolled in at least one dual enrollment course each semester at EFSC.
The Child Care credits I received were through coursework and practical training in the VPK classroom located on Merritt Island High School campus.
I have completed all of these required courses through dual enrollment, some were on EFSC campus and some were online courses.
I have applied to nearly every state college in Florida and was accepted into University of North Florida, University of Central Florida, and Florida International University. Ideally I would like to attend a school that has a strong Early Childhood Education program including a master's program and where I can continue to train and compete in pole vaulting and perform in circus arts. My first choice school is FIU because the area and the school has all of my desires!
Scholarship opportunities will be very important to me in my post secondary education. I am currently searching and applying for any scholarship that I qualify for. I also expect to earn the Bright Future's Scholarship and am hoping for an athletic scholarship through track and field.
